Fish Stocking Options for Colorado Lakes & Ponds
Colorado’s diverse lakes and ponds require the right fish species for the water, climate, and location. We offer a broad selection of fish for Colorado stocking programs, including popular sportfish and forage species such as rainbow trout, largemouth bass, black crappie, channel catfish, bluegill, hybrid striped bass, certified triploid grass carp and fathead minnows. Our selection provides options for developing a balanced fishery, supporting healthy forage populations, improving recreational fishing, and managing individual lake and pond goals.
The Continental Divide is an important consideration when planning a Colorado fish stocking program. The East Slope and West Slope have different water systems, habitats, and fishery characteristics, so the species that are appropriate for one location may not be appropriate for another. In general, Colorado’s East Slope offers opportunities for a wider variety of warmwater and coolwater fisheries, including bass, bluegill, crappie, catfish, and forage species, while many West Slope waters are particularly well suited to coldwater fisheries such as trout. Colorado Parks and Wildlife requires approval for fish stocking statewide, with additional permitting requirements for stocking west of the Continental Divide.
Whether you’re looking to establish a new fishery, enhance an existing population, or create a balanced predator-and-forage system, we can help identify the fish species best suited to your Colorado lake or pond and its location.
